Final Week to Rate your Freeze, Melt, and Conservation!
I hope you found the accountability of this group during January, February, and March of 2009 to be as helpful to you as I found it to be for me! I've seen great improvement in each of our three areas of focus--money, calories, and time--because I am in a group of people who are watching, and listening...and they care! So, thank you! (Of course, the more you post, the more care and encouragement you will feel!)
Last time to pull out your journal!
Our first shared goal was to freeze debt (rate yourself today), melt fat, (rate yourself today), and conserve your time (rate yourself today)! Then we moved into the emotional phase: loving to burn, give, and plan--learning to enjoy a disciplined lifestyle. Finally, we narrowed our "focus" to practical ways to save, give, and burnfor a lifetime.
For those who read daily in the Change Your Life Daily Bible, today's Old Testament reading is from Deuteronomy 4--the whole chapter is encouraging, but verses 5-6 speak of the impression others have about those who obey the Lord's ways: "How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!"
May the Holy Spirit of the Lord pour out and over your life today and always. May your life reflect the power of God's love and favor on your life--on the easiest days and the most difficult ones. May your love for God be evident in all you do...
Be encouraged,
Becky

Week 11: Save Time Daily
This week, I am reminded that time is a gift. How we use our time (1) can impact others positively or negatively, and (2) affects how we experience our day (ex: anxiety or stress or guilt or satisfaction or elation).
So this week, our call and our assignment is to spend every "chunk" of our time wisely! Since you all seem to like the "quick ways to remember" the weekly tips, I'm going to make a list of abbreviations so you have to listen to the call in order to find out what they are!!
CAC before you go to bed!
BOT for everything!
RWW is relaxing!
TOE before departing!
HAP for your day!
Enjoy!

Week 10: Focus on Saving and Burning Calories for Life!
This week we focus on the VERY practical ways we can save, burn and spend calories SO MUCH that it becomes our lifestyle...not our burden!
Questions to Ask: In Prevention Magazine, there four questions that we should all ask ourselves always--and at ANY time, the HONEST answer is going to be the key to busting through a plateau!
1. Am I working hard enough?
2. Am I snacking more?
3. Are my portions oversized?
4. Am I in a workout rut?
We'll talk about these questions more on this week's call--but most importantly, this is the perfect WEEK in your life for the rest of your life to make calorie saving and burning a lifestyle!
FYI: For those in the year-long or QTRLY groups, I am offering a 20 minute personalized coaching session for those who need a kick-off or a follow-up call. You can register for that online at Change Your Life Daily.
Note: Our last Wednesday call of this series will be a Question and Answer session--so if you can make the live call, come with any questions you might have for me!
Be encouraged,
Becky

Make a Mad Dash for March!
We're coming down the stretch...4 weeks to go! We can do this...but it will require an extra amount of focus, an increased level of intensity, and a deep breath of endurance to finish WELL!
Now is not the time to regret any goofs in the past nor rely on your successes to date--now is the time to rally, run and a make a mad dash for the end of the month.
This week's tips and ideas will focus exclusively on how to "SAVE MONEY" in a variety of ways:
1. Shop your closet -- You have a "field trip" this week! Browse through (or buy) a recent fashion magazine or store catalog (free) and look through it for styles that you like (shoes, pants, dresses or skirts) and especially observe colors. Then go through your closet and mix and match pieces from previous seasons that you might not have purchased together. Ex: yellow or pink sweaters and blouses to wear with grey (rather than black)!
2. Field Trip to Target, Gap, and JC Penney-- Isaac Mizrahi, for example, is a NY designer who designs clothes for Target at an extremely affordable price. If you are on a tighter budget and have never taken a look at the brands at these clothing stores, you'd be surprised and amazed at how cute (and inexpensive) the sweaters, T-shirts, and swim suits are for all sizes!
3. Hair Cuts -- Instead of a monthly hair cut, just go in for a bang or neck trim (most hair dressers will do this for free or a tip); AND if you've been tempted to grow your hair longer, NOW is the time. Save on haircuts and suffer with the "growth" while saving money!
4. Save $$ on Food/Groceries -- Use your freezer not only for leftovers but for keeping certain foods longer (ex: freeze browning bananas and use in smoothies for desserts, instead of ice cream; freeze ginger root and take out only what you need). Cut your portions down (1/4 pound burgers instead of 1/3 of a pound; eat 1/2 carton of yogurt per snack and add sunflower seeds to make it a more filling and fiber-loaded snack; cut candy bars and gum portions in 1/2!)
These are my tips for SAVING MONEY this week...of course, the more you save, the more you can give away!
If you are reading through the CYL Daily Bible, Proverbs 10:22 was a great reminder, "The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and He adds no sorrow with it."
Be encouraged,
Becky

Reviewing your Love Language!
Did you LOVE to burn, give, and plan during the month of February?
Did you passionately pursue those areas of your life that needed to be renewed and restored?
Did you change your thinking and begin to look forward to burning calories in new and creative ways? There's only one way to know: weigh in and measure your inches on March 1st...the proof is in the pudding!
Did you set aside dimes and dollars for needy causes without complaint or procrastination? Did your checking account, change purse, or piggy bank reflect your willingness to save or give more!?
Did you plan (and thus, spend) your time more wisely--more projects accomplished, more clutter tossed, and more goods given to charity? Make a mad dash to the finish line and organize "thy" life one block of time at a time!
Remember...we are heading into March...the FINAL FOUR WEEKS of our QTR 1 Series. (Note: If you want to sign up for QTR 2 and receive your chocolate striped journal in time, visit www.changeyourlifedaily.com and register now by March 10th. You can still join for the year by calling Reggie at 800-444-6189.)
Plus: "live" call is as usual--noon PST on Wednesday.
Be encouraged,
Becky

Week 8: Love is a Lifestyle
February's Theme: Love to Give, Burn, and Plan has taken us from passion to decision--and this week it's important to move toward the longer lasting form of love: a lifestyle! Yes, when you love to give (money and time) you will transition from the impulsive giving to a steady, stream of giving that spans your lifetime! When you love to burn calories as a lifestyle, you'll find yourself planning healthy eating and regular exercise into every week of every year (during bad weather, holidays and vacations) because you enjoy it, need it, love it! And when you love to plan your time--not ever expecting to have more time on your hands than things to do--you'll realize that the best days, weeks, months, and years are the ones that have been planned in advance!
This week, in your journal, brainstorm ideas of what the ideal LIFE of giving, burning, and planning would look like...by answering these 3 questions (FYI: I will give you some practical ideas on our weekly call):
What would MY LIFE look like if I made GIVING (money and time) a Lifestyle?
How can I make burning calories A LIFELONG pursuit that I love?
What do I need to change/do/revise to increase my commitment to planning my life in daily, weekly, monthly increments?
Loving to "do the right thing" is way more fun than struggling, resenting, or resisting it! Let's LOVE to give, burn, and plan for a lifetime together, okay?
Be encouraged,
Becky

Week 7: Love is Decision
As we continue with the February Focus--Love to Give, Burn, and Plan--we move from the "emotion" of love (the infatuation or passion stage) to the "decision" stage (commitment phase)!
Last week, I encouraged each of you to turn your obsession toward those things that are not healthy or helpful into passion for the right things!
This week, I am encouraging you to move from the emotion and passion attached to giving, burning, and planning to making decisions in each area and keeping them.
In my own life, I find that so much MORE money is given, calories are burned, and time is spent wisely when I decide to take small action steps in each area. The power of telling someone what you plan to do, or making a written commitment turns emotion into a decision.
This week...make small decisions in each area such as "I will give 10% of my earning this week to my church or a charitable organization," or "I will burn 200 more calories this week by wearing a pedometer and walking farther to my car/office," or "I will spend 10 minutes each night or morning to plan my day, so I don't waste money or time."
We all know that love that lasts takes more than passion--it requires a decision.
Let's do it together!
Becky

February Focus: Love to Burn, Give, Plan
February--the love month--is the focus of our second month in our quarterly/year-long quest to "save money, calories, and time in 2009!"
Our challenge this month is to love, yes LOVE, to:
Burn Calories,
Give Money, and
Plan Time.
Each week in February we are going to consider one aspect of "love" and consider how it can impact our shared goals. This week--Week One--we are going to look at how to love burning extra fat and calories, love giving money (instead of keeping it), and love planning our time more wisely, rather than wasting it!
Of course, this means that you have to look at the things you love and why they are are worth your sacrifice! What those things are to you will be different for each person. Some of you will say, "family," others will say, "quiet time," and others will say, "my job." What you love will be evidenced by how passionate and protective you are of it!
So this week, I want you to consider how you can love to (1) burn calories--enjoy it, look forward to the benefits of eating less and exercising more, (2) give money--give more to those in need or spend less on yourself, and (3) plan how you will spend your time --rather than waste time day-dreaming or in front of the television!
Realistically, this is a journal exercise. This week, I am challenging you to change the way you think! To love what use to hate. To desire the best, rather than settle for less! Okay? Go for it. Draw a line in the sand--date the page and turn it!
Be encouraged,
Becky

Honestly Assess Progress
It's the end of January and our theme--Freeze any Debt, Melt off Fat, and Conserve Your Time--is about to come to a close. That means BEFORE we can turn a page, we need to review our past successes (and even the mistakes) and regroup/reassess/rearrange and move forward.
Week 1: Freeze, Melt, Conserve
Week 2: Shop Your Closet
Week 3: Walk it Off
Week 4: Most Important NOW!
Week 5: Honestly Assess Progress
This week's assignment? You and I have to honestly assess our progress to date. Has our impulsive spending remain frozen or is it thawing? Have we saved money by shopping our closet--and encouraging ourselves with the loss of weight? Have we walked off weight and calories and saved money by exercising for FREE! And have you saved TIME and MONEY or CALORIES by asking yourself a simple question, "What is my most important now?"
This week, review and regroup. Weigh in--did you stay the same weight, lose more weight, or gain pounds or inches. How is the savings/spending plan progressing--if it is not going well, revise your goals and make them more manageable THEN ask someone to keep you accountable to your new plan.
You and I cannot DO any of this alone. Change doesn't happen without the help of God and others.
Before we head into a new month, take the next week and honestly assess your progress and renew your goals--and realize that daily accountability leads to weekly, then monthly success!
Be encouraged,
Becky

Week 4 "Most Important Now"
This is an immensely, handy little phrase/question to ask yourself numerous times throughout each day (especially if you are a procrastinator):
"What is your MOST IMPORTANT NOW?" (MINute, get it?)
When it comes to money, the question becomes, "Is this money I intended to spend right now?" For example--at check out counters, while shopping for A, are you looking at (or worse, being tempted to buy) B!? Just ask, What is my MIN?"
When it comes to calories, this question stops you from snacking, or from eating second helpings, or from grabbing a candy bar instead of eating, preparing, or packing a healthy snack.
When it comes to time, of course, every minute counts--but we don't usually believe it (or at best, "live" like we believe it). You will inevitably get yourself back on course, if you simply asked yourself as you go throughout your day, "Is this what I intended to be doing right now? Is this my MIN?"
On this week's phone call, you'll be challenged to journal about your MIN every day this week! It will change how and when you eat, spend, and live...I promise.
Be encouraged,
Becky

Week 3 -- Walk it Off! (January 14th Post)
This week, as we freeze debt, melt fat, and conserve time, our over-arching theme is “Walk it Off!”
Walking, first and foremost, will save you money because you don’t have to belong to a gym or pay ANYONE for space to walk! You can go to an indoor or outdoor school track or to a mall “before” hours; you can attack a large parking lot (at work or in an industrial park), or of course trek your own neighborhood or home treadmill. And as you are saving money, you are also melting off fat! (I’m not suggesting that you quit the gym to save money, but I have personally not belonged to a gym for over 18 months and walking is my main (and currently, only) form of exercise. Suggestion: Always try to walk with a partner or a dog—they will keep your pace up and make you more accountable to show up!
Did you know that WALKING suppresses appetite, increases your energy and its benefits can be experienced whether you walk in four increments of 10 or 15 minutes or all at once!? Do a little “google” research on the benefits of walking and you’ll be amazed! Strap on a pedometer and see how easy it is to walk 10,000 steps a day. Walking burns calories and fat! And walking 30 minutes a day for 7 days burns 1000 calories a week--which translates into 15 pounds a year! (Suggestion: Did you know that walking for just 5 minutes after every meal will reduce bloating and get calories burning? Get googling!)
Walking saves time because it IS convenient—you can walk before work, during your lunch hour, after work, on your break, after dinner with a spouse, or just before picking up your kids from school. Suggestion: Have you walking shoes in your car or at your front door at ALL times. Take advantage of every spare 5 to 10 minutes you have by walking when it fits into your schedule, not only when an instructor is teaching a class or your TV/DVD is free!
The final “added” benefit to walking—is emotional release…from both anxiety and cravings.
You GO girls! Walk it off!

Week 2 -- Shop Your Closet (Jan 7 Post)
This week's assignment is take each area of our three-prong approach to change your life in the 1st Quarter of 2009 (approximately 77 days left) and determine your goals--make them practical and do-able; we will evaluate every few weeks to assess our progress!
Money: Debt Freeze...Do you plan to pay down debt and/or save? In your journal, on one page, titled "Money", determine your goal, divide it into three blocks (one block for each month), then divide those blocks by the number of weeks in each month (3 weeks left in January, etc.). If you are in the year long group, you can "go after" all 52 weeks, so take each Quarter at a time.
Calories: Melt Off Fat...Do you need to lose weight? In your journal, on one page, titled "Calories", determine your weight/inch loss goal, divide it into three blocks (one block for each month--Jan., Feb., Mar.), then divide those blocks by weekly goals.
We'll talk about specific Week 2 goals on the January 7th phone call.
Time: Conserve Time...for the next 90 days--you have to trust me here, I want you to spend at least 10 minutes a day talking to God and listening to God in your Retro journal or current prayer notebook. Talk in writing, Listen by reading the Bible daily. If you do not currently follow a Bible reading plan, read one chapter of Proverbs a day for the next 31 days.
This week's assignment that affect/impacts your money, calories and time is: Shop Your Closet!!!!! More on the phone call...
