I just listened to the recorded call since I wasn't able to be in on the live one. Thank you, Becky. You asked for people to share on the blog and this came to mind. There are two ways of giving (loving to give money away) that the Lord has placed on my heart in recent years. The first one is to always give, without exception, when given the opportunity. At church when offerings are taken for missionaries, students, etc. we always give something. We may not be able to give a huge amount as we feel led to do with some events or people, but we feel it's important to always give when presented the opportunity. So even if it's only $5.00, we always give. (and of course this wouldn't apply if you felt the Holy Spirit directing you to not give). When someone is in need, we want to be able to say yes, even if it's a very small offering.
Secondly, once a month at our church a benevolent offering is taken. I sensed the Lord ask me a long time ago to give everything in my wallet for these offerings. Sometimes I have dumped out all the change, and just a few dollars. Other times I realized I had just gone to the bank and had hundreds of dollars in my wallet, yet the nudge was still there - give it all. This has definitely loosened my hold on money, and given me a joy in giving. When I'm dumping a pound of change and hundreds of dollars into the basket that I might have paid a couple of important bills with, it makes me think, "Okay, Lord, this is your money to begin with. I'm doing what I feel you told me to do. I trust you to supply all my needs." And I can honestly say that there has never been one time when we have lacked after having given in this way. God always provides.
I'm anxious to read what others share on this. Thank you for your words, Becky. God bless your audition!
Just a question? Where do you perfer us to post comments on the blog, on the call area or the Focus for the month area?
Mickey, good question!
I'll post here for now.
The topic this week goes like this for me:
The loving to give--I have ministries I want to give to, including a child we support/sponsor in Africa.
I also have time I need to invest in exercise. I really need it for both diabetes and fibromyalgia/arthritis.
The third area, Time, seems to hamper the other two.
I am spending so much time trying to get our small business back on its feet in this economic downturn that I do not get to the things I really love and want to do.
I could sit all day on the computer and read blogs, Business sites, networking sites etc. on man's way to get rich quick (even Christian sites). I've seen some pretty unBiblical stuff out there (including Christian sites on making money). I want to do what my pastor suggests, and operate out of God's economy. I want to seek first His kingdom. I want God to help me run our business, but I don't want it consuming my very life.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get my mind clear of work at the end of the day, so I can focus on other things, please post them. We have our office in our home, and things just seem to haunt my day and rob my time. We need our business to sustain us, but I feel like it has robbed me of using my gifts, and taking care of myself and my home.
